Kobuk Konnection

(L-R) Sarah, Shoshanna, Isaac, Luke, and Desarose Stewart
"No decisive people movement to Christ has yet occurred among the aboriginal peoples of Alaska" - Operation World, 2010.

Since 2012, we been building a partnership with the village of Kobuk, Alaska, and the Baptist church there, which is under the leadership of missionaries Luke and Sarah Stewart.

Kobuk is a small Eskimo village in Northwest Alaska.  Home to about 140 residents, the village is only accessible by boat or plane.

Ice jams on the Kobuk River cause annual flooding in the village.  Isolation and economic disadvantages take their toll on the residents. The suicide rate in "bush" Alaskan villages is more than twice the national average and alcoholism and depression are also commonplace.  Our goal is to assist Luke and Sarah in bringing the power of the gospel to bear on these problems and start a gospel movement that spreads to other villages and indigenous peoples.  We work toward this goal through prayer and an annual trip to Kobuk.

Check back on this page for updates from Kobuk (Luke and Sarah) and from our mission teams.
